We woke up in a “leisurely” fashion this morning and enjoyed a traditional breakfast at our hotel of baguettes, croissants, jams, chocolate spread, fruit, cereal, juice and coffee.
With our bellies full we boarded our buses and drove for an hour to the Basque town of San Sebastien in Spain. We walked through the narrow streets to the Cathedral where we took group photos and then went in small groups to explore the beautiful seaside town. We shopped, we ate tapas, we sunned ourselves in the amazing setting.
On our way back toward Biarritz we stopped at Saint Jean de
Luz, most famous for the marriage site of Louis XIV to his Spanish bride. We saw the mansion Louis XIV stayed at before
he was married and then walked to the church where they were married. Then, we had free time in this portside
town. There were more ice cream
purchases, crepes consumed and souvenirs bought.
We boarded the bus, again, and this time went back to
Biarritz where we spent a short part of our day yesterday. The weather was still gorgeous and this time
we had an hour and a half to explore the beach, the town and to take in the
breathtaking sites---even the Pyrennes could be seen in the distance!
